Sadly, Congressman Walter B. Jones passed away on February 10, 2019. His untimely death has left the NC 3rd District without representation in 116th US Congress. Governor Roy Cooper has announced a Special Election to fill Congressman Jones’ seat. Here are some important dates for you to remember:Candidate Filing – March 4 to March 8Primary Absentee Ballots – March 15Primary Election – April 30General Election Absentee – May 24Election Day – July 9With so many candidates running to fill Congressman Jones’ seat, it is highly likely there will be a run off after the Primary. A candidate must win by more than 30% to win. If no candidate wins by more than 30%, there will be a run off. Should a run off be necessary, the General Election dates will shift as follows:Run Off Election – July 9General Election Absentee – July 26General Election – September 10Special Elections turnout is historically low, but this is a very important race for Eastern NC. Please get out and vote and encourage friends and family to vote. If you can’t get to the polls, get an absentee ballot and vote. You will be receiving a separate email listing the candidates to be running to date. Some of these candidates have already attended Crystal Coast Tea Party meetings to tell us their views, and answer questions. Other candidates are expected in the coming weeks. Phil Law and Michele Nix have already visited one or more of our meetings. Jeff Moore plans to attend our meeting this Tuesday, March 5 at Cox Family Restaurant in Morehead City at 6 p.m. More to come on the candidates. |
