30%Rate Hike Proposed for Coastal NC

NC Friends:

Below is a slightly edited announcement from the town manager of Pine Knoll Shores.

It applies to ALL NC coastal property owners. Please see if you can attend.

Please also pass this on to other NC coastal property owners you know.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As many of you have heard, coastal insurance rates are being targeted for another major increase.  The message below my signature block provides detail.

You may contact the NC Insurance Commissioner to voice your opposition (which was effective in preventing a much more substantial increase just last year).  The blue/bold text below tells you how to do this.

Next week an organization called NC-20 is holding a symposium in Morehead City that addresses a number of issues significant to coastal NC.  NC-20 is an organization that advocates for many coastal groups on legislative/policy issues such as stormwater management, sea-level rise, and the fight that occurs almost annually over insurance rate increases.

I have found NC-20 to be the best source of information for the lay-person (i.e., not in the insurance industry) to understand these complex issues.

Note that the symposium costs $35 (which includes lunch), and that other important coastal issues besides the insurance rate increase will be covered.

Insuring a home may get pricier in NC

Insurers are seeking rate increases for homeowner’s insurance in North Carolina that range from a high of 30 percent in coastal counties to a low of 1.2 percent.

The hefty rate increase being sought along the coast fits a long-term pattern that has frustrated and outraged coastal communities that contend the rates homeowners pay already are unjustifiably high. Continue reading

Supreme Court Outcome Will Have Lasting Effects

Rulings on redistricting expected to hinge on election results

Oct. 1st, 2012

RALEIGH — To many, the race is below the radar, taking a back seat to the presidential and gubernatorial contests in North Carolina. But some say the battle for a state Supreme Court justice seat could be the most important race to be decided by the state’s voters this year.

The reason? The outcome of this race will decide whether the partisan balance will shift toward the Democrats or remain with the Republicans on the officially nonpartisan Supreme Court.

Among other issues, the court will decide whether the legislative and congressional maps set last year by the Republican-led General Assembly are constitutional. If the justices say no, it may take a year or more to draw new maps and complete all the legal challenges to them. The justices may wind up drawing the final maps before the 2014 election, and whether the majority is Democratic or Republican could have a significant effect on the partisan makeup of the General Assembly and the state’s congressional delegation.

The race pits incumbent Republican Justice Paul Newby of Raleigh against Democratic Court of Appeals Judge Sam J. “Jimmy” Ervin IV of Morganton. Continue reading

CRYSTAL COAST TEA PARTY PATRIOTS
MEETING MINUTES OF
18 SEPTEMBER 2012

Meeting was held at Jing Gianni’s Trattoria in Morehead City, NC
Meeting was called to order at 6:03pm by Chairman BOB CAVANAUGH
Pledge of Allegiance was led by HOWARD GARNER
Invocation by JERE GEURIN
Attendance – 28

Discussion on murder of our Ambassador, the two Seals and the American citizen, in Libya and opinions of what was the cause.  No one believes it was spontaneous.  It was definitely preplanned.  Obama’s people are doing a lot of spin to take the heat off Obama and his foreign policies.  It was agreed that if our government had listened to what was being said at least three days prior to the storming of the consulate, and if our guards had been armed, this disaster could have been averted.

LUKE KUKULINSKI reported that the phone bank at GOP Headquarters starts tomorrow.  Anyone who wants to help make calls, contact JUDY WILGUS.

SUSAN RYNAS said New Bern was having one (phone bank) this weekend.  Bethany, who spoke to us recently, has been in contact with KAREN BLOOMFIELD.  KAREN stopped by prior to the meeting (she was unable to stay tonight) and dropped off information on making the phone calls that Bethany had talked to us about.  The data even included the talk you were supposed to make in conversing with potential voters.  Very informative.

BOB asked how many had attended the Insurance Commissioners’ debate Monday at the Sanitary Restaurant. Continue reading

MEETING MINUTES OF
11 SEPTEMBER 2012

Meeting was held at Jing Gianni’s Trattoria in Morehead City, NC
Meeting was called to order at 6:03pm by Chairman BOB CAVANAUGH
Pledge of Allegiance was led by RO THOMPSON
Invocation by STEVE BEST
Attendance – 33

BOB asked for a moment of silence in memory of those brave souls who knew they were going to die on Flight 93 but decided to take matters into their own hands and all those other poor souls in the World Trade Center (can’t forget the memory of those bodies jumping from many stories above the sidewalk to avoid the horrible flames) and the Pentagon (all those lives lost, may we never forget).  And their families.  Silence

HOWARD GARNER commented on the cost of the memorial of Flight 93 and the fact that right after the event the Moose Lodges and Chapters took that as a project and all donated at least $93.00 each, which amounted to at least a million or more in donations, but the people in charge of developing the memorial said they still needed something like $5 million to complete.

HOWARD also reminded everyone about the luncheon/debate Monday at the Sanitary Restaurant, September 17, 11:30 to 2:00 pm featuring candidates for NC Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey and Wayne Goodwin.  If you do not already have your reservations, and would like to go, please email ncdoidebate@gmail.com to check if any spaces are still available.

BOB gave a brief update on some recent events: Continue reading

MEETING MINUTES OF
4 SEPTEMBER 2012

Meeting was held at Jing Giannia’s Trattoria in Morehead City, NC
Meeting was called to order at 6:05pm by Chairman BOB CAVANAUGH
Pledge of Allegiance was led by TOM AUSTIN
Invocation by NANCY BOCK
Attendance – 30

BOB asked what everyone thought of the convention (Republican) last week.  Great speeches and speakers.  He said he finally broke down and went to see the 2016 movie last week.  He is glad he did.  It really explained the source of Obama’s anger and the mindset that he had coming out of his early years and the baggage he is carrying.  He understands a lot better of where his hatred of the United States is coming from and why he wants to bankrupt us.  He saw the movie in Havelock.  TOM said it had been carried over in Jacksonville.  BOB said he went to the 10:00pm showing last night, got out around midnight, and even that late there were six other people there that late.  Usually when he goes to a 10:00pm movie, he is the only one there.

HOWARD said we need to keep our meeting short tonight so we can all get home and see Michelle speak tonight.  (laughter) BOB said it is appearing to him that this convention (Democratic) is one angry group.  Discussion on which speaker at last week’s Republican convention  did the best job.  Everyone there had an opinion from Clint Eastwood Continue reading

MEETING MINUTES OF
28 AUGUST 2012

Meeting held at Jing Gianni’s Restaurant in Morehead City, NC
Meeting called to order at 6:05 pm by Chairman BOB CAVANAUGH
Pledge of Allegiance was led by KEN LANG
Invocation by LYN BAKER
Attendance – 32

BOB informed audience that FRED DECKER had $2.00 each raffle tickets for ½ buffalo (meat) for sale to raise money for “Young Marines” for anyone interested.

Discussed the movie ‘2016’ and who had attended so far and their comments.  BOB asked if it had changed anybody’s opinion and the response was ‘Yes, even more determined to vote against Obama”.  KEN LANG said it did not change your opinion but it sort of explains why Obama does what he does.  When you talk to people in their 30s and 40s and you tell them Obama is trying to pull America down, they will ask, ‘why in the world would he do that?’.  This movie explains why.  Obama does not view America the same way that people who grew up here does.  He spent his first 10 years in Indonesia and after that he went to Hawaii, which if you remember, was a possession of the United States at that time.  (A colony)  The whole basis of this movie is that in Obama’s mind the US has stolen everything from all these other countries (3rd world) and now we need to give it back.  One of the things he points out was the money he had given to Brazil and Mexico to drill for oil and in other places other than our territorial waters.  The author, Denesh D’Souza, Continue reading

CRYSTAL COAST TEA PARTY PATRIOTS

MEETING MINUTES OF

21 AUGUST 2012

Meeting held at Jing Gianni’s Restaurant in Morehead City (across from O’Malley’s on

Hwy 70/Arendell Street – Beaufort side of Cox’s) Information provided for those

Who still are having trouble finding our location)

Meeting was called to order by Chairman BOB CAVANAUGH

Pledge of Allegiance was led by RO THOMPSON

Invocation by STEVE BEST

BOB asked if everyone was aware that the ‘2016 Obama’s America’ movie was going to be shown in Jacksonville at the Carmike 16 Theater, 350 Western Blvd, located behind the Mall (behind Belks).

Times are:  Friday, August 24 – 1:00pm, 3:10pm, 5:20pm, 7:30pm, 9:40pm

Saturday, August 25 – Times same as above

Sunday, August 26 – Times same as above.

According to the web site it plays from this Friday until next Thursday.

Discussion followed as to location of theater, and who was planning on going and what time and day.  The email we had received came from TOM AUSTIN who also wanted to know who planned to go and did we want to go as a group.  HOWARD GARNER and several others thought it would be nice to go as a group; however, it appeared that different ones were planning their own car pooling times, so no consensus was agreed upon all going together at the same time.  So BOB said you all have the schedules – work it out yourselves.  He, personally, was not going…there he did not think they would show anything to make him dislike Obama more than he already does.  VERNE THOMPSON said he agreed with BOB, except he felt like he should support the people that had produced this movie.  BOB said he thought buying the DVD would give them more financial support than anything else.  Ongoing discussion among the attendees about who wanted to go with whom, until BOB used the gavel to bring order back to the meeting by asking PEGGY if she would like the floor (since she was talking and making plans with BELVA and RON MANNING about getting together and going).  She thanked BOB but said she didn’t think she could carry the floor very far. (Laughter)  BOB said Atlas Shrugged Part II was coming out later on this month.  They have also released it on DVD.

BOB reminded us that VERNE THOMPSON had told us last week that he would take the Paul Ryan budget which was about 70 pages and he would summarize and condense it down, which he has done.  He brought several copies for us to take and read and discuss at our next meeting. Continue reading

BOB said, “For those who missed it, a bunch of us went down to the other side of Swansboro for the photo opportunity with the Moore County TEA Party, who were down to take pictures of the road side billboard.  If you want to see what it looks like then just look at the button ROMA has on.  Anyway we had a real good showing of 24 people.  The Moore County TEA Party group was blown away when they saw the crowd.  I got a phone call later on the during the day from the Jacksonville Daily News, Jennette Pippett.  She wanted to know what was going on.  She had gotten reports that the TEA Party or Wounded Warrior crowd were out there by the side of the road waving flags and signs.  Continue reading

Meeting was held at Jing Gianni’s, 4050 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC
Meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm by Chairman BOB CAVANAUGH
Pledge of Allegiance was led by BOB CAVANAUGH
Invocation by Norman Sanderson

BOB said he wanted to thank soon-to-be Senator Norm Sanderson and Lady Sanderson for coming and speaking with us tonight.  We also have soon-to-be’s Judge Rowe, and Judge McFadyen among our distinguished guests tonight.  (Applause)  “In case you all missed it, Judge McFadyen’s competition decided to drop out of the race (Applause).  That saves Dave’s friends a lot of money.  (Laughter)”   Someone asked what happened to Smith and why did he drop out of the race.  David said they had had a long talk (great conversation) and Kirby felt it just wasn’t in his best interest to stay in the race.  He respects everything Kirby had to say to him…he respects his rationale…to be honest with you, if the shoe were on the other foot, he probably would say the same things.  He appreciated his candor.  It does mean the race changes a little bit, but, said  his name is still going to be on the ballot and for that reason we will still have to get the vote out.    BOB asked ‘what happens if he gets more votes than you but has dropped out of the race before the election?’  David said,  ‘then he will win and tell you all that the people have spoken.’  Therefore we need to get that vote out in November, so something like that will not happen.  He did appreciate the article in the News Times.  It kinda spelled the situation out a little bit better than he could.  If you have not read that article, please go on line and read it there. Federal Court Upholds the Herding of Demonstrators Into “Free Speech Zones”

Federal Court Upholds the Herding of Demonstrators Into “Free Speech Zones”

truther August 9, 2012 1

Mac Slavo
SHTFplan

There was once a group of men who established a fundamental law of the land that allowed the people of their new found country to peaceably assemble and petition their government for a redress of grievances. These founding fathers of that Great nation even went so far as to declare that the government itself could never make a law that would threaten to supplant these protections, which were reserved exclusively for the people. This concept of freedom of assembly and protest was so critical to protecting and preserving the liberty of the people that it was the very first law – the very first Amendment – proposed by the newly elected representatives of These United States of America and came into effect on December 15, 1791.

It’s frightening what just a couple of hundred years of politicking, self serving greed and expediency can do to a nation. Apparently, somewhere along the way, politicians and judges who hold their personal views in higher regard than those laws upon which this nation was founded, have taken it upon themselves to decide what’s best for the American people and that, perhaps, we have a little too much liberty:

A federal appeals court has upheld the creation of no demonstration zones, which prohibit free speech in certain public areas.

The Second Circuit Court of Appeals released a ruling yesterday upholding a lower court’s decision that also declared such zones as being permissible. The opinion was penned by Judge Dennis Jacobs on behalf of a three judge panel that included Judges Pierre Leval and Debra Ann Livingston, two of whom are Republican judges appointed by George H.W. Bush.

The case surrounded an arrest that took place in 2004 when Michael Marcavage of Repent America and Steve Lefemine of Columbia Christians for Life attended the Republican National Convention in Madison Square Garden to address the large number of pro-abortion speakers at the event, including Rudy Giuliani and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

According to court records, the two were standing on the public sidewalk holding signs when they were approached by police. The police officer informed the men that they could not stand in their particular location because it had been marked by officials as being a “no demonstration” zone.

When the men asked where they could go to engage in free speech activity, the officer directed them to a free speech zone located a block away from the entrance of Madison Square Garden. The area, which police had specifically erected for demonstrations, was the only location where expressive activity was allowed to take place during the event. Individuals of varying and opposite opinions were forced to stand together in one consolidated and caged area, which included a stage with a microphone.

Marcavage and Lefemine complied by walking away from the area alongside the officers and toward the zone that the NYPD had established. As they walked and were questioning the police about the purpose and reasoning behind the zones, they were placed under arrest for not relocating to the area fast enough.

“They took us to an abandoned warehouse where they funneled hundreds of people into cages that they had set up for this purpose,” Marcavage explained. “They treated us like cattle.

(source)

Only those who agree with the message being delivered at a particular political or public event are now authorized to assemble in or around these areas. Anyone else is relegated to the cattle cages out of view of the public, the media and the officials at whom their protest or grievance is directed.

These zones are the very antithesis of free speech.

And it’s not just judges ruling by decree that are stripping us of our right to assemble and protest. In fact, the 1st Amendment itself has been, per recent Congressional action, overridden by a new law that was passed earlier this year. The Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act now allows national and local authorities to declare any venue they so choose as an “event of national significance,” at which point anyone who is found to be demonstrating in those areas can be charged under Federal criminal statutes.

Congress Criminalizes the Right to Free Assembly; Strips Basic Protections of First Amendment:

The new legislation allows prosecutors to charge anyone who enters a building without permission or with the intent to disrupt a government function with a federal offense if Secret Service is on the scene.

It’s not just the president who would be spared from protesters, either.

Covered under the bill is any person protected by the Secret Service. Although such protection isn’t extended to just everybody, making it a federal offense to even accidently disrupt an event attended by a person with such status essentially crushes whatever currently remains of the right to assemble and peacefully protest.

In the text of the act, the law is allowed to be used against anyone who knowingly enters or remains in a restricted building or grounds without lawful authority to do so…

Under that verbiage, that means a peaceful protest outside a candidate’s concession speech would be a federal offense…

With the definitions for “domestic terrorism” now taking on a broad scope and encompassing almost any activity deemed as such by the Department of Homeland Security and federal authorities, it is only a matter of time before peaceful demonstrators are not only detained for their criminal terroristic activities, but held indefinitely under US anti-terrorism laws like the National Defense Authorization Act.

That members of our Congress and appointed Federal judges would first create, then uphold, such laws designed to explicitly enact regulations in direct and overt violation of the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights is nothing short of a treasonous action.

It is, by all accounts, a betrayal of the people of this country and of the established laws of the land.

A Couple of Conservative Movies

At last nights meeting, several people asked about two movies that are geared towards conservatives. These movies will not appear in theaters everywhere like most Hollywood production. Here is the information to date. Check the web sites listed for more theaters as the movies are released throughout NC (maybe).

Movies:

Obama’s America 2016 by Dinesh D’souza

based on the book “Roots of Obama’s Rage.” Good book

Web site: http://2016themovie.com/theaters/?state=NC

Movie has been released and will be playing in NC on August 17 in Charolette and Concord; they say more cities to be announced.

Atlas Shrugged Part 2

based on the book “Atlas Shrugged.” Another good book

Part 1 was released last year and is now available on DVD. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and plan to go to see Part 2.

Web site: http://www.atlasshruggedmovie.com/

Movie to be released 10-10-12

Theaters have not been announced yet; Part 1 was in Wilmington and Fayettville, and west. Check their web site for theaters as the release date approaches.

You can also contact the web sites and let them know that you want the movies played in this area. If they get enough requests, they may make arrangements for them to play here.

The goal of the the NC TEA Billboard Project is to send an unmistakable message to residents of and visitors to North Carolina – RECLAIM AMERICA – VOTE – ENOUGH!  Our statewide committee of TEA and Grassroots conservatives planned for, raised funds and has now put billboards in key strategic locations in North Carolina over the period from July through the November elections, 2012.

North Carolina is a Battleground swing state this year, when the Democrat Convention will be held in Charlotte in September.  During the period when the billboards will be up many hundreds of thousands of people will view them.  A mobile billboard will be in Charlotte, another mobile will be at the Raleigh area schools of higher education.  The fourteen stationary highway billboards are located in all geographic points of the state.  The locations have been carefully selected to assure maximum viewability and clarity.

WITH MOST SINCERE APPRECIATION
We have worked very hard and are pleased to thank Tea Party Patriots, whose large grant made the fund-raising part of our task much easier.  We would still be calling, e-mailing and even knocking on doors for money to make it all possible were it not for generous donors like YOU, and TPP too!
From the NC Billboard Project Statewide Board

BRING YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY!
For four August days we will be traveling our beautiful state and welcoming the billboards.
This billboard is in Salisbury – in all there are thirteen billboards – another was up for several months. The two mobiles will be out there in September!  Whew!

Please come with us to celebrate the launch!

Swansboro
This billboard is in Swansboro…and there are more!

This beauty is in Madison.

North Carolina is peppered with billboards and we hope you’ll want to see and celebrate them in person with us.
COME ON,
LET’S GO!
Check our website for the Celebration Trips info and Join Us!

Terry Jones is not Presidential Material

An unfortunate set of circumstances resulted in the Crystal Coast Tea Party having Terry Jones as a speaker at tonight’s meeting. Rather than cancelling the meeting as some had suggested, Bob and I decided that we would go ahead and host Terry Jones in an attempt to convince him to withdraw from the Presidential race. Bob began the meeting by detailing why Jones was not a viable candidate (some which are described below in the Press Release). Jones responded by saying that he was invited to explain why he was running for President not the hear why he shouldn’t. There were a number of pointed questions from the floor asking how his splitting the conservative vote was helpful to defeating President Obama. The meeting abruptly ended with Jones leaving.

We have submitted the Press Release below to the Carteret News Times, and asked them to please give it as much visibility as they did Sunday’s story on Jones that contained misinformation since the writer had not contacted anyone from Crystal Coast Tea Party to verify the information in the article. We are particularly concerned about the impact this situation has had on Cox’s Family Restaurant as they had nothing to do with this except to provide us a meeting place. They didn’t know anything about a speaker, and certainly had nothing to do with the arrangements. They have experienced very negative reactions from a small group of people.

At our next meeting, we will be discussing procedures to insure that guests are not invited to speak by individual members without being vetted by CCTPP board members and members in attendance at the meeting. We are committed to not repeating a situation such as this in the future.

PRESS RELEASE
July 31, 2012

The Crystal Coast Tea Party accepted a request to speak from the controversial Dr. Terry Jones who is running for President of the United States as a write-in candidate. As a non-partisan group, it has been our policy to provide the opportunity to political candidates of all parties to speak. By listening to and asking questions of candidates, we believe that we can thoroughly vet candidates to determine whether they believe in our principles of Limited Government, Fiscal Responsibility, and Free Markets.

After hearing Dr. Jones speak, it is clear that he does not subscribe to our principles, or our values as Americans. We believe that Dr. Jones effort to run as a third party candidate will be detrimental to the election of a conservative candidate in the upcoming Presidential election. We further believe that Dr. Jones’ anti-Muslim campaign is directly responsible for the deaths of US soldiers and NATO forces in Afghanistan as well as numerous Afghan civilians and soldiers. The Crystal Coast Tea Party considers Dr. Jones a totally unacceptable candidate for any political office.

The Crystal Coast Tea Party advised Dr. Jones to withdraw from the 2012 presidential campaign.

Additional Information:

The Crystal Coast Tea Party did not invite Dr. Terry Jones to speak to our group. Neither the CCTPP Executive Committee nor the membership at large contacted Dr. Jones. It is possible that an individual made an initial contact. However, Dr. Jones published an announcement in a local paper that he would be speaking to our group. The Crystal Coast Tea Party did not promote or advertise Dr. Jones‘ appearance, nor did we pay for any promotion or advertising related to his appearance. Any advertising that was done was apparently paid for by Dr. Jones without the review or approval of the Crystal Coast Tea Party. We chose to permit Dr. Jones to speak based on the policy stated above.

No one from the Crystal Coast Tea Party was interviewed by any media regarding Dr. Jones’ appearance, or the details leading up to his appearance.

CRYSTAL COAST TEA PARTY PATRIOTS
MEETING MINUTES OF
24 JULY 2012

Meeting was held at JingGianni’s Trattoria in Morehead City, NC
Meeting was called to order at 6:05 pm by Chairman BOB CAVANAUGH
Pledge of Allegiance was led by BOB CAVANAUGH
Invocation by NORMAN SANDERSON
Attendance – 26

BOB introduced John (G), owner/proprietor of JingGianni’s Trattoria.  John said, “I am about as conservative as one can be.  I am a subscriber of Rush Limbaugh and my wife is a Glenn Beck subscriber.  (Applause) I was in Pennsylvania during the last presidential campaign, taking care of my mom and dad.  My dad was dying and all the time I was there I was paying close attention to candidate Obama and when the Joe the Plumber comment came up, I said this man (Obama) is a Marxist.  It turns out to be true.  This is a very important election for the state and the country.  Mr. Sanderson’s prayer spoke to this country’s been blessed by GOD and we need to take it back because one of the messages in our church is we are almost getting to the point of civil disobedience.  We have to fly counter to the counter culture that is in the world.  As Jesus said to overcome the world.  I thank you all for coming.  I apologize for the limited menu but I really wasn’t sure, with Italian food, it is kind of hard to prepare a lot of it in advance and have it keep as good as being plated one at a time.  I appreciate you all trying us out and hopefully you will come back.”  (Applause)  BOB introduced our waiter and waitress for tonight.

BOB introduced Norman Sanderson, our special VIP,  our future NC Senator, and asked if he had a few words he would like to share with us tonight.  Tonight is a social event, not campaigning. Continue reading

Email from Senator Kay Hagan on UN Arms Treaty

Talk about Double-Speak! If Senator Hagan feels so strongly about the Second Amendment as she says, what else is there to consider. Maybe she should consider that every gun owner in NC will vote her out of office if she votes to ratify this UN Small Arms Treaty.

Letterhead

     July 26, 2012

Dear Friend,

Thank you for contacting me regarding Second Amendment rights. I greatly appreciate your thoughts on this important matter.

As you know, in 2006 the United Nations (UN) began discussions regarding an Arms Trade Treaty. While the United States originally opposed these discussions, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has more recently stated that the United States would support and participate in these talks. In October 2009, the UN adopted, by a vote of 153-1 with the United States in support, a resolution laying out a timetable for negotiations. However, even should a treaty be signed, it would require the approval of two-thirds of the Senate before it would be considered ratified and in effect.

I understand your concerns regarding the protection of Second Amendment rights and I oppose allowing international law to override our constitutional rights. Like you, I support the Second Amendment. My family, like the great state of North Carolina, has a long tradition of hunting and gun ownership, and I take great pride in that heritage. Already during my time in Congress, I have voted on various pieces of legislation that protect Second Amendment rights, including to correct the District of Columbia’s overly-strict firearm regulations in order to protect Second Amendment rights in our nation’s capital.

President Obama has not sent any treaty regarding gun control to the Senate; however, I can assure you I will take your opinions and comments into account as I consider this important issue.

Again, thank you for contacting my office. It is truly an honor to represent North Carolina in the United States Senate, and I hope you will not hesitate to contact me in the future should you have any further questions or concerns. If you would like to stay informed on my work in the Senate, you can sign up for my e-newsletter, follow me on Twitter at @SenatorHagan, or visit my Facebook page.

Sincerely,

Signature

Kay R. Hagan

The Ultimate Takedown of Obama’s ‘You Didn’t Build That’ Speech

via PJMedia

(go to original article for videos)

President Obama’s instantly infamous “You didn’t build that” speech is a major turning point of the 2012 election not because it was a gaffe but because it was an accurate and concise summary of core progressive fiscal dogma. It was also a political blunder of epic proportions because in his speech Obama unintentionally proved the conservatives’ case for limited government.

This essay will show you how.

When Obama implied at the Roanoke, Virginia rally that some businessmen refuse to pay for public works from which they benefit, he presented a thesis which, like a three-legged stool, relies on three assumptions that must all be true for the argument to remain standing:

1. That the public programs he mentioned in his speech constitute a significant portion of the federal budget;
2. That business owners don’t already pay far more than their fair share of these expenses; and
3. That these specific public benefits are a federal issue, rather than a local issue.

If any of these legs fails, then the whole argument collapses.

For good measure, we won’t just kick out one, we’ll kick out all three.

“Small Government” Is Not the Same as “No Government”

Progressives critique the fiscal conservative/Tea Party/libertarian position by purposely misrepresenting it as anarchy. When fiscal conservatives say “We want smaller government,” progressives reply, “Oh, so you want no government?”

“Government” in this particular discussion is shorthand for “communal pooling of resources for mutual benefit.”

Fiscal conservatives have never called for no government — that’s the anarchist position, and contemporary anarchism is actually dominated by extreme leftists, not extreme conservatives. Instead, fiscal conservatives clearly and consistently call for limited government, or for smaller government — but not for the absence of government altogether.

So when President Obama and his mentor Elizabeth Warren justify their call for tax hikes by pointing out that all entrepreneurs benefit from communal infrastructure, they’re committing the classic Straw Man Fallacy by arguing against anarchy — a position that their opponents do not hold.

Here’s the shocking truth: President Obama and Elizabeth Warren are correct — we all benefit from certain taxpayer-funded collectivist government infrastructure projects and programs. And here’s the other shocking truth: Therefore, we should limit government expenditures to just those programs. Why? Because most of the other government programs either

• hinder, constrict or penalize entrepreneurial activity; or
• benefit some people to the detriment of others; or
• waste money on bureaucracy, overhead or ill-considered expenditures that end up indebting the nation and by extension all Americans. Continue reading

Walter Jones on Department of State Authorization Act

Earlier this week the U.S. House of Representatives voted to approve H.R. 6018, the Department of State Authorization Act.  I was proud to vote NO on that bill, and I’d like to explain why.

According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), H.R. 6018 would cost nearly $16 billion to implement between fiscal years 2013 and 2017. Included in that bill is over $1.6 billion in U.S. taxpayer funding for the United Nations (UN) and other international organizations.  The bill also includes another $1.8 billion to support international ‘peacekeeping’ operations in the Middle East, Afghanistan, Liberia, West Africa, Sudan, East Timor, Cambodia, Western Sahara, Kosovo and Bosnia.

Unfortunately, the bill passed by a vote of 333 to 61.  It concerns me that only 60 of my colleagues joined me in voting no.   A roll call of the vote can be found here.

At this very moment the United Nations is considering numerous proposals that are detrimental to America and to freedom around the world.  One proposal would erode our right to keep and bear firearms which is enshrined in the Constitution’s Second Amendment.  Another would allow for regulation of the internet by undemocratic, unaccountable international bureaucrats.

At a time when the United States is well over $15 trillion in debt, it makes absolutely no sense to continue to give billions of American taxpayers’ hard earned dollars to the UN and the rest of the world.  It is imperative that we keep our money here and stop the wasteful deficit spending that is crippling our nation!

Thanks,

Walter

CRYSTAL COAST TEA PARTY PATRIOTS
MEETING MINUES OF
10 JULY 2012

Word got around late Sunday afternoon (after 4:00pm) that the Golden Corral was closing its doors that very day.  The T.E.A. Party officers and some of the members spent a good part of Monday trying to find a suitable area to hold our meetings.  Ruth asked the Cox’s of Cox’s Restaurant about using their business again (This was the original meeting location for the T.E.A Party – formerly called the Morehead City TEA Party).  We had a problem with taking up too much of their parking lot and costing them customers, so we had moved across the street to the Golden Corral.  Mr. & Mrs. Cox told us they would be more than glad to have us back, but we still have a problem with the parking; however, they thought if we did not mind walking a little ways, then we could park on the side street (next to the business next door – formerly a pet store).  Several other restaurants were tentatively investigated or discussed, but the board decided to go with Cox’s again, until we could have more time to really investigate other areas.

Meeting held at Cox’s Restaurant, Morehead City, NC
Meeting called to order at 6:05pm by Chairman BOB CAVANAUGH
Pledge of Allegiance was led by Wes King, of Americans for Prosperity (AFP)
Invocation by JERE GUERIN
Attendance – 25

BOB recognized KEN LANG to read a ‘beautiful’ poem “I am Your Flag” that he had gotten from his pastor last Sunday.
I was born on June 14, 1777
I am more than just cloth shaped into a design.
I am the refuge of the world’s oppressed people
I am the silent sentinel of freedom.
I am the inspiration for which American patriots gave their lives and fortunes
I have led your sons into battle from Valley Forge to the bloody jungles of Viet Nam
A word of silence with each of your honored dead to their resting place beneath the             silent white Crosses row upon row
I have flown through peace and war, strife and prosperity, and amidst it all
I have been respected.
My red stripe symbolizes the blood spilled in the defense of this glorious nation
My white stripe signifies the burning tears shed by Americans who have lost their sons.
My blue field is indicative of GOD’s heaven under which I fly
My stars are clustered together, unified 50 states as one for GOD and country.
Old glory is my nickname and proudly I wave on high
Honor me, respect me, defend me with your lives and your fortunes
Never let my enemies tear me down from my lofty position, lest I never return.
Keep alight the fires of patriotism
Strive earnestly with the spirit of democracy
Worship eternal GOD and keep His commandments
And I shall remain the bulwark of peace and freedom for all mankind.
Author unknown.

BOB introduced Wes King, who is a field coordinator with American’s for Prosperity.  He said “As of two weeks ago, I cover Carteret County all the way down to Brunswick County.  I have one of the bigger regions in North Carolina and I am excited to have it.  I think that it is important for eastern North Carolina to improve ourselves.  There is a reason that people started paying more attention to our area.   We have to continue to show people why they are paying attention.  I guess it is one of the more important things that we can talk about tonight.  A few weeks ago MSNBC posted an article that said that Americans are sleeping until September. CRYSTAL COAST TEA PARTY PATRIOTS
MEETING MINUTES OF
3 JULY 2012

Meeting was held at Golden Corral Restaurant, Morehead City, NC
Meeting called to order at 6:05 pm by Chairman BOB CAVANAUGH
Pledge of Allegiance was led by John Tedesco
Invocation by STEVEN BEST
Attendance – 35

Discussed ERIC BROYLES’ idea of a TEA Party Mission Statement handout.  Need to discuss suggested idea a little more.  Do not want to use in parade…with Pocket Constitution and July 17th Runoff Election voter list suggestion, do not want to include too much or it will all end of being thrown away.  Asked ERIC to bring up again later.

Group discussion on last week’s Supreme Court Decision by Justice Roberts whether good or bad decision.  Some interesting comments made.

BOB introduced our Guest Speaker tonight — John Tedesco, candidate for NC Superintendent of Public Instruction. Once again BOB told the group about how excited he had been when he heard Mr. Tedesco speak a couple of weeks ago…that he felt he was the most dynamic speaker he had ever heard and tonight was our turn to listen to him.   Continue reading

CRYSTAL COAST TEA PARTY PATRIOTS

MEETING MINUTES

OF 26 JUNE 2012

Meeting was held at Golden Corral, Morehead City, NC

Meeting called to order at 6:04pm by Chairman BOB CAVANAUGH

Pledge of Allegiance was led by SCOTT CARPENTER

Invocation by STEVEN GUY BEST

Attendance – 27

NANCY BOCK, Treasurer said we had $995.00 same as last week.  No bills have been paid.  Owe for pocket constitutions (1000 for $236.00), flags (about $70 or $80.) the fringe for the float will be about $70.00.  We have a credit of $75.00 with the paper because they overcharged us for the last ad we had.  She has left it with them to offset our next ad we plan to use before the runoff.  PEGGY gave her the $50.00 check she had received at the last meeting from one of our attendees and BOB said there was also some additional money in the donation jar.

LYN BAKER had purchased some car refreshers (which smell like new car) to sell at the parade for $2.00 each.  They are replicas of the flag.

CHRIS McCAFFITY said he did go fishing not long ago and took some scientists  on the Carolina Princess.  They got to see how they were discarding tons and tons of fish and  a lot of the fish were floating off and dying.  Actually had seagulls pecking their eye out as they were floating off. Good for them to see that first hand to display why he refused to go fishing anymore until we get it straight. One of the ways to do that is; many of you filled out postcards and sent them in on several different issues.  One of them was the area closure, 200 miles offshore from Virginia to Key West.  That was based on the lack of data on two fish using Agenda 21’s precautionary principles.  They had taken that freedom and he thought when they took it they would never give it back.  But we kept on sending postcards anyway to the Secretary of Commerce and this year they suspended the entire closure.  (Applause) But that was because the people had made their voices be heard.  He said he could shout it all day long from the rooftop and it doesn’t matter, if it is just him saying it.  It doesn’t have any impact.  But if a 1000 people support what he is saying or 2000 (that is the number of postcards he had made) about an issue, it makes a difference.  We have been able to stop the game fish bill here in NC.  He has spoken to the Speaker of the House, Thom Tillis, twice now and Thom asked Chris to offer an alternative to that bill, so what he is trying to do now is work with different people in the fishery industry to come up with a plan to present to him and hopefully get Pat McElraft to sponsor it and some others…so we are having some success there and we are going to keep going.  He has a postcard here with him tonight….what he is doing is addressing it to different people now, because he has been traveling.  His wife is a traveling nurse and so….he was out in California and gave a speech to the TEA Party out there and mentioned you guys and mentioned you on the air when he was on the radio.  Out there in Cal., they now have heard about the Crystal Coast TEA Party Patriots.  He gave us good credit when they asked how TEA Partys and other groups have responded to him asking for help.  He said almost all of them have refused to even acknowledge him except for the Crystal Coast TEA Party Patriots.  We had given him the opportunity to speak when he comes to the meetings and let us know what is happening and he appreciates our support.  It means a lot to him, especially since there has only been…he can count on one hand out of probably 500 groups he has asked…from the Heritage Foundation to the ACLU.  They have all just refused to even respond back to him.  The Heritage Foundation told him if he paid them by joining their group, they might help him.  That is not saying anything good for them.  He was kind of disappointed in that.  They say join us and we might be able to help you.  But he said he didn’t have the money to join every group that he is asking for help from.  We the people are the ones that have the power and that is what I want people to realize for any success we are having is all the individual…no matter if they are a part of another organization or group…Democrat or Republican almost everyone distrusts bureaucracy and that is who has the power now.  We can change the leaders through the elections but the bureaucrats have the power regardless of who wins those elections….and they manipulate the system and then you have the big ego charities who get their donations from the political corporations.  Talking to different groups, you hear Democrats talking about corporations a lot that they don’t like them and don’t trust them and I understand why.  They manipulate the system, they control the people that run for election through their donations and then they control the ego charities that can give this stuff to us through the bureaucracy.  It is a big cycle there.  He has been looking into why things happen and it is you just follow the money and you find out and you find out why they want to accumulate the power that they do.  He passed around the new cards  (or mini-petitions) he had and asked those who would like to help to please sign the cards and return them to him to mail himself.  That way he knew how many actually got mailed.  The other way he was doing it only about a third actually got mailed.  BOB asked him how he was paying that postage and Chris said through the calendars he was selling.  He has calendar 2113 with him tonight, with a whole new set of pictures.  He passed them around for everyone to see and collected the postcards (mini-petitions) that attendees had signed.

BOB asked him if Tillis has asked him to run for an office or be a politician.  He said he had no desire to be a politician, he really wanted to be a fisherman.  He wants to go back doing that.  He is very happy that we are having some success.  We have a meeting coming up in December with the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council and what he is trying to do is get people to come up there and take part…whether it is the TEA Party or just a group of individual Americans that want their freedom to fish and eat American sea food.  If anybody is interested in that…his web site is Freefish7.com and his email is

freefish7@hotmail.com.   So if you send him an email, he will get you all the information.  If we could get 3 or 4 hundred people to come to that meeting, because usually it is just CHRIS and a few others that show up, we could make them listen.  He was asked where it was going to be and he responded…it is supposed to be at the Sheraton on Atlantic Beach but he is not sure that is going to pan out.  KEN LANG said if you go to the TEA Party Web site you will see a whole bunch of links on the right side…just go down until you find the link that takes you to his site.  We have had it on our web for a couple of years now.   Chris said he really appreciated that.  That is the thing though, power and numbers….there are two things that we have….knowledge and power…then we can trump any amount of money or numbers of bureaucrats and politicians with numbers of American citizens peacefully using their freedom of speech to defend their God given freedoms.  That is what we need to do.  BOB asked how Burr and Hagan, McElraft, Tillis and Jones….how did they all react to you?  Chris said it was different with each one….depending on how much time they have too.  If it is a short meeting they are kind of rushed.  Burr and Hagan, they were almost like deer in the headlights talking to them.  It looks like they are just thinking pass what you are saying or have something else on their mind.  Congressman Jones….he has been great as far as our fisheries go.  I think he has done a very good job.  He listens…I’ve had one on one meetings with him…he is opposed to the catch share scheme that would allocate our resources to a few big local corporations and put small, independent fishermen out of business.  McElraft, she has been very helpful…Tillis, we had a town hall meeting with him and then he came and met with a group of fishermen.  Actually, he wanted to hear what Chris had to say.  They like to hear people who offer solutions, too, that is one of the things that they are happy about….that he is not just complaining and saying don’t do this or that, but offer positive solutions that mitigate a lot of these negative impacts of what they are doing to us.  BOB said the reaction of these scientists that went fishing with you….and all those dead fish….Chris said he had been telling them…now look these fish come up from 100+ feet of water with their eyes bugging out of their heads…they are a done deal.  That fish is going to die anyway.  Really these fish are a gift from GOD that we should treat with respect and if we are going to kill them we should kill them quickly and we should use them wisely.  As long as we have quotas in place so that we don’t kill more than we replenish the stock we will have them there forever.  Just like 2000 years ago on the Sea of Galilee, Jesus, himself, caught fish and fed them to thousands of people as he taught them things like the Golden Rule.  Remember that when you talk to Democrats and all different people…we all have a yearning to be free…and it is just that the leadership in a lot of cases kind of manipulate the way things go and you are either a ‘d’ or an ‘r’ and there is a lot of room in between there where we the people; if we just stand together behind some simple solutions, regardless of political affiliations; really could have a whole lot more impact because when you have bi-partisan support for something they will listen, if it is just the ‘d’ saying it or the ‘r’ saying it, it kind of falls on deaf ears on the opposite side.

KEN LANG said Chris had mentioned Agenda 21 which is behind a lot of things that are going on across the country and certainly in NC.  He said he found a site on a face book page on Agenda 21 called “Fighting Agenda 21 in North Carolina”.  He has posted it on our face book page and he sent an email out to about 40 people in our group….did not send blasting mail….because he has some problems right now with doing that.  When he found that page they had had something like 580 some members on that page.  They have almost a 1000 on there now.  Apparently a lot of those he had contacted went on their page and signed up for it.  They exchange information about Agenda 21 and one of the things he found was a series of articles about some recent things happening in the NC Legislature.  There is a guy named Representative Glen Bradley who submitted a bill to take out some language from another bill that was going forward that was going to renew the charter for the NC Food Council.  The NC Food Council is overseen by the Department of Agriculture which is run by Steve Troxler, who is a Republican, supposedly a conservative Republican.  Well that charter was full of Agenda 21 language and Glen Bradley had a bill to take all that language out of it.  The bill was opposed by Paul Stampe, who is the majority leader in the House of Representatives in NC.  He is also with the GOP in Wake County.  He did not like the bill and he, apparently, does not believe Agenda 21 even exists.  He thinks it is a conspiracy theory.  Apparently about 17 other Republicans in the House also believe that because they also voted against Glen Bradley’s bill to take that language out and so Bradley’s bill was defeated.  Mainly because Republicans voted with the Democrats to defeat Bradley’s bill.  There has been a lot of traffic on this fighting Agenda 21 in NC obviously about that.  Paul Stampe, and Thom Tillis, as well as some other notable leaders in the House and the Senate, apparently just don’t believe in Agenda 21.  He had a couple of emails going back and forth between Pat McElraft and himself on that and she acknowledged the fact that a number of Republicans don’t understand what Agenda 21 is.   Glen Bradley actually offered a workshop for members of the House of Representatives and only 4 representatives in the Legislature showed up for that workshop on Agenda 21.  He also found on that site somebody had posted a resolution that has been adopted by at least 2 county commissions in NC now called United Nations Agenda 21 to heighten awareness of its impact on the communities of the United States.  He only has one copy…he has been having some computer problems, so….it is about one page and what they are doing though this face book page is trying to encourage other counties into passing this or a similar resolution on Agenda 21.  There was also an Agenda 21 resolution passed at the third district GOP Convention.  That never made it out of committee for the state convention.  Obviously there are people in the state GOP level who don’t want to fool around with Agenda 21.  I think most of it is out of ignorance really…cause quite frankly it does sound like a conspiracy theory when you start talking about it.  But it is not!  It is real and we obviously know there is a UN document that is huge that describes that thing.  And also the Rio 20 Conference that was just held included pushing Agenda 21 forward.  This ‘Lost at Sea Treaty’ (LOST)  is headed up by a subcommittee, but it still kind of falls under the broad purview of Agenda 21.  That is another one that some people like John Kerry who is pushing ratification of that treaty (LOST).  There are people out there that just don’t connect the dots between all these things or either they are doing it on purpose or out of ignorance.  BOB said a lot of these people in support are these large conservation groups and they funnel a lot of money to these elected officials to support these laws.  HOWARD GARNER said he heard on the radio today as we were coming to the meeting that Pat McElraft was standing her ground against a bunch of people outside of her office protesting.  We heard some of them speak.  It sounded like they were probably young college students.  KEN said Pat emailed him back that she and Norman Sanderson would continue to fight against implementation of Agenda 21 and all those bills.  Pat and Norman were two of the people who voted for the Bradley bill which would have been against the Agenda 21 language.  He has posted this resolution on our Face Book Page.  There are also some good videos there explaining Agenda 21.…one a David Ikeman that is very good.  He posted it on that Fighting Agenda 21 Face Book page and he would say within the first hour he must have gotten a dozen real positive comments about how good that video was. My thanks to all TEAers who contributed to WE CARE  last week (June 26th).  I left the meeting with more than $100 in donations  to WE CARE.  This enabled me to mail another 7 Care boxes to our troops in  Afghanistan, for a total of 23 for which I had postage.  Tom Harmon and  Merle Miller came to help me, and we put a total of 40 boxes in the mail  Thursday at the Newport Post Office.  Without the help of you TEAers the  task would have been much more difficult.  Please know that the troops who  receive those boxes really appreciate your participation.  They need to  know that they are not forgotten, but that Americans care about them.  Sam  Sanford and I extend our thanks again for your generosity and for caring.   — Jere Geurin

DISCUSSION on Candidates:

HOWARD GARNER put in a plug for Ed Goodwin.  “If you will look at his background, his experience, and where he has been, it’s hard to find any one person with the experience he has.  He started out in a tobacco patch, which he has certainly paid his dues working in a tobacco patch.  And then he served in the military, traveled the world as a federal agent, and now is back farming again.  But what really caught my attention about him, was he (a Republican) got elected County Commission in a Democratic controlled county that was bankrupt.  So he won the election; they picked him as chairman with the idea he would make a fool of himself or if things got worse, they could blame it on the ’Republican’.  Instead, he pulled the county out of bankruptcy and now they have a surplus.  So it looks to me like he has done a fantastic job as chairman of the County Commissioners.  That is Chowan County and Edenton.  I had read about the county and their bad financial shape before I ever heard of Ed Goodwin.”

BOB asked how many folks were here last week when Ed Goodwin spoke to us.  The majority raised their hands.  He was pretty impressed with him.  Running against Mr. Goodwin is Kenn Gardner who also spoke to us a couple of weeks ago.  Anybody want to speak for or against Mr. Gardner?    LUKE KUKULINSKI said he thought either one of them were good.  HOWARD said he thought Mr. Gardner was a good man, but he thought Ed Goodwin was more experienced and better qualified.  BOB wanted to know if Gardner was the other one who was an architect.  Answer was yes.  PEGGY GARNER said another thing, in her opinion, was Ed Goodwin is from eastern North Carolina and is more aware of what goes on in our area.  Gardner is not.  He is an architect from Raleigh.  BOB said he thought that we (HOWARD and PEGGY) just liked farmers.  HOWARD and PEGGY said we do, they are smart, usually honest and hard working.  HOWARD said he believed in the man. These NC Republicans Voted for Agenda 21 Food Council Bill

Here are the Republicans who voted with Democrats to defeat Rep. Bradley’s amendment to strip pro-Agenda 21 language from the Food Advisory Council’s charter. They joined with Joe Hackney to provide the swing vote; most Republicans voted with Bradley and AGAINST Agenda 21. Clearly, the below Reps agree with the Southern Poverty Law Center, which claims that Agenda 21 doesn’t exist, and is just an …”anti-government conspiracy theory.”

Remember them well, as they all clearly need to be replaced at their next election.
