Letter to the Editor

A rhetorical question..

After reading your editorial, ‘Are rights ever wrong?’ , I’ve reached the conclusion that there has been a shift in your position on 2nd Amendment rights.  So allow me to ask you a rhetorical question. Of all the people you know, are you really OK with the amount of liquor they purchase on a monthly basis?  You will note I did not say ‘consume’ but purchase for whatever reason.

It is a matter of record that there are far more deaths on our roads from alcohol related accidents in which many innocent children die. Why not pass a law that says that ALL vehicles on the road will be operated by a designated driver and there will be zero tolerance for any driver suspected of consuming even one drink before stepping behind the wheel.  The arresting authority will be mandated, by law,  to have blood drawn at the scene of any driver, of any vehicle, involved in an accident where injury has occurred.

Let’s apply this reasoning to our 2nd Amendment.  Suppose you suspect your neighbor of owning an illegal firearm as defined by our anti-firearm regime.  Why not encourage him/her to report this to the State Police for, say, a small reward of $500. Most of your readers don’t know that this law was recently signed into law in New York  State under the SAFE act.

The SAFE act,  Secure Ammunition & Firearms Enforcement act encourages state residents to report “illegal” gun owners in exchange for a $500 reward.  New Yorkers can call a “Gun Tip Line” if they believe someone they know has an illegal gun, according to CBS6Albany.com.  Hotline calls are answered by state police and tips are referred to local law enforcement.

Reminiscent of programs in Cuba or the former Soviet Union, the “reward for turning in your neighbor” program is another example of overreaching by an anti-freedom, power-hungry State administration.  It is outrageous, and it is un-American. These Gestapo like tactics were once employed in Germany during the thirties when true Germans were asked to report anyone harboring Jews or in the Soviet Union if your neighbor wasn’t on board with the Stalinist regime.

If there was ever a need for unrestricted ownership of firearms in our Country today it is apparent by the machinations of the Obama regime.  Some will argue that there is a vast difference between a drunk driver and private ownership of  a firearm and they are right.  In the case of a social drinker you take one person off the road. In the case of unrestricted gun control you enslave a Country.

These are the US Senators who Voted Against a bill Preventing the UN Gun Ban

Two independents no Republicans, the rest Democrats.

Over the weekend, we were four votes away from the United States senate giving our constitutional rights over to the United Nations. In a 53-46 vote, the senate narrowly passed a measure that will stop the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.

The Statement of Purpose from the billread:

To uphold Second Amendment rights and prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.

The U.N. Small Arms Treaty, which has beenchampioned by the Obama Administration , would have effectively placed a global ban on the import and export of small firearms. The ban would have affected all private gun owners in the U.S., and had language that would have implemented an international gun registry on all private guns and ammo.

Astonishingly, 46 of our senators were willing to give away our constitutional rights to a foreign power.

Here are the senators that voted to give your rights to the U.N.:

Senator Hagan Finally Revealing Her Position on Gun Control?

Sen. Kay Hagan favors expanding background checks for guns

News & Record

GREENSBORO — U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan likes the idea of expanding background checks for gun purchases, but her vote on legislation nearing the Senate floor will depend on the details, her office said Tuesday.

Hagan, a Greensboro Democrat, is also prepared to vote for increased gun trafficking penalties and new school safety measures widely expected to be part of a gun bill.

She’s “unlikely to support” a renewal of the 1994 assault weapons ban or limits on gun magazine sizes because of “the impact it could have on responsible gun owners,” said Sadie Weiner, a Hagan spokeswoman.

These comments come as rhetoric in the gun debate again nears fever pitch. The Senate is scheduled to take up a bill after it returns from Easter break April 8. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns group is running $12 million worth of commercials in the interim.

The goal is to pressure key lawmakers to vote for the bill, and particularly for the new background checks. The group lists 15 senators it’s targeting — 10 Republicans and five Democrats, including Hagan. Continue reading

Why Is Obama's Growing DHS Army Buying Armored Vehicles?

There are several articles like this posted on the internet; however, this is from a well-known, reputable source. Why is this not on the news? Why aren’t our elected representatives calling for hearing? Why is Obama gearing up for war on the streets in the United States? Call, write, and email Congressman Jones, and Senators Richard Burr and Kay Hagan and ask why they are not protecting their constituents from what appears to be preparation for attacking US citizens. Not only that, why can’t our government cut this kind of radical, over-the-top spending instead of cutting security in airports and laying off teachers as Obama has said Sequestration will do?
Posted 03/05/2013 06:26 PM ET

Security: In addition to stockpiling over a billion bullets and thousands of semiautomatic weapons the feds would deny U.S. citizens, the vehicle of choice for fighting the counterinsurgency war in Iraq is appearing on U.S. streets.

The sequestration question du jour is why the Department of Homeland Security, busy releasing hundreds, if not thousands, of deportable and detained illegal aliens due to budget constraints, is buying several thousand Mine Resistant Armored Protection (MRAP) vehicles?

And just who are they intended to be used against?

This acquisition comes on top of the recent news of the stockpiling by DHS of more than 1.6 billion (with a ‘b’) bullets of various calibers, enough by one calculation to fight the equivalent of a 24-year Iraq War, and the ordering of some 7,000 5.56x45mm NATO “personal defense weapons” (PDW) — also known as “assault weapons” when owned by civilians.

Additionally, DHS is asking for 30 round magazines that “have a capacity to hold thirty (30) 5.56x45mm NATO rounds.”

The Department of Homeland Security (through the U.S. Army Forces Command) recently retrofitted 2,717 of these MRAP vehicles for service on the streets of the U.S. They were formerly used for counterinsurgency in Iraq.

These vehicles are specifically designed to resist mines and ambush attacks. They use bulletproof windows and are designed to withstand small-arms fire, including smaller-caliber rifles such as a .223 Remington. Does DHS expect a counterinsurgency here?

After IEDs began to take a toll on U.S. military forces in Iraq, the Pentagon ordered a large supply of MRAPs.

“They’ve taken hits, many, many hits that would have killed soldiers and marines in uparmored Humvees,” Adm. Michael Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said in a recent interview.

A DHS officer, Robert Whitaker, stationed in El Paso, Texas, recently proudly described the agency’s new armored toy as “Mine-resistant … we use to deliver our team to high-risk warrant services … (with) gun ports so we can actually shoot from within the vehicle; you may think it’s pretty loud but actually it’s not too bad … we have gun ports there in the back and two on the sides as well. They are designed for .50-caliber weapons.”

This is needed to serve warrants? Perhaps it might have been useful at Waco.

So the question is what does DHS need 1.6 billion bullets, 7,000 Ar-15s and 2,700 armored vehicles for?

What are they anticipating or planning for, and why are few in the media and Congress asking about it, particularly in the light of daily apocalyptic bleats from the administration about sequestration cuts?

The So-Called Gun Show Loophole

The So-Called Gun Show Loophole: Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics

John G. Malcolm

February 8, 2013 at 10:12 am

J. Emilio Flores/La Opinion/Newscom

There is a lot of misinformation circulating about background checks for gun ownership.

Under the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act—which created the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS)—all federal firearms licensees are required to conduct a background check for all firearms transactions, even if they sell the firearm at a gun show. This is to make sure that the gun isn’t being sold to a person who is prohibited from purchasing a gun under Section 922(g) or (n) of Title 18 of the United States Code, which would include convicted felons, people who have been adjudicated to be severely mentally ill, and people who have been convicted of a domestic violence offense.

President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I), and scores of others have repeated the mantra that approximately 40 percent of all gun purchases are conducted through private sales at gun shows and are not subject to a criminal background check. This has become known as the “gun show loophole.”

At a recent Senate hearing, Baltimore County Police Chief James Johnson went so far as to say, “Allowing 40 percent of those acquiring guns to bypass background checks is like allowing 40 percent of airline passengers to board a plane without going through airport security.”

What gun control proponents never say, though, is that this oft-repeated statistic is based on stale data that was grossly exaggerated even when it was fresh.

As The Washington Post has pointed out, this 40 percent figure comes from a 1997 report by the National Institute of Justice, a research agency within the Department of Justice, and was based on a telephone survey sample of just 251 people who acquired firearms in 1993 and 1994. This was years before the NICS system went into effect. Of the 251 participants, 35.7 percent said that they didn’t or “probably” didn’t obtain their gun from a licensed firearms dealer. Because the margin of error was +/– 6 percentage points, it was rounded up to 40 percent, although it could just as easily and legitimately have been rounded down below 30 percent.

In addition, if you subtract people who said they got their gun as a gift, inheritance, or prize, the number dropped from 35.7 percent to 26.4 percent. And, in terms of how many people actually buy firearms at gun shows, the data from this same survey indicated that in 1994, only 3.9 percent of firearms purchases were made at gun shows.

Citing this data as evidence of how many firearms are currently purchased through private sales not subject to background checks is akin to citing data about current seat belt usage that is derived from a limited sample taken years before a mandatory seat belt law went into effect or before cars were even required to have seat belts. We all know that, according to a phrase popularized by Mark Twain, there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics. Citing such limited and outdated data over and over again on a matter of this magnitude, however, is going too far.

Rove Declares War on Tea Party

Rove Declares War on Tea Party

The battle for the heart and soul of the Republican Party has begun. On one side is the Tea Party. On the other side stand Karl Rove and his establishment team, posing as tacticians while quietly undermining conservatism.

Yesterday, the New York Times reported that the “biggest donors in the Republican Party” have joined forces with Karl Rove and Steven J. Law, president of American Crossroads, to create the Conservative Victory Project. The Times reports that this new group will dedicate itself to “recruit seasoned candidates and protect Senate incumbents from challenges by far-right conservatives and Tea Party enthusiasts who Republican leaders worry could complicate the party’s effort to win control of the Senate.” The group points to candidates like Christine O’Donnell in Delaware and Richard Mourdock in Indiana as examples of Tea Party primary picks going sideways in major Senatorial battles.

But it is American Crossroads and its ilk that have run the GOP into the ground. Spending millions of dollars on useless 30,000-ft. advertising campaigns during the last election cycle, training candidates to soften conservatism in order to appeal to “moderates,” blowing up the federal budget under George W. Bush as a bipartisan tactic – all of those strategies led the party to a disastrous defeat in 2012. The Tea Party, which may nominate losers from time to time, also brought the Republicans their historic 2010 Congressional victory. If Tea Party candidates lose, it’s because they weren’t good candidates; if GOP establishment candidates lose, it’s because they weren’t good conservatives. The choice for actual conservatives should be easy.

But it isn’t. The Bush insider team that helped lead to the rise of Barack Obama insists that they, and only they, know the path to victory. As the Times reports, Conservative Victory Project won’t merely protect incumbents – it will challenge sitting Congresspeople of the Tea Party variety, including six-term Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King, who may run for Senate. “We’re concerned about Steve King’s Todd Akin problem,” Law told the Times – with whom he seems far too friendly. “This is an example of candidate discipline and how it would play in a general election. All of the things he’s said are going to be hung around his neck.”

Law claims he’s acting under the rubric of William F. Buckley, supporting the most conservative candidate who can win. But Law is no judge of that. Neither is Rove. Their advice led to the epic Romney defeat, in which conservatives were told to vote for Romney in the primary since he was the only candidate who could win.

Grover Norquist correctly points out that the Rove mission is nonsense. “People are imagining a problem that doesn’t exist,” said Norquist. “We’ve had people challenge the establishment guy and do swimmingly.” In truth, conservatism wins elections so long as the messenger doesn’t implode. Rove’s view, however, is that conservatism takes a back seat to the best quasi-conservative messenger.

But victory for conservatives isn’t Rove’s goal. He’s a political insider par excellence, and he’s playing for his political life in the aftermath of 2012. If that means declaring war on the Tea Party, so be it.

Letter to the Editor, The Newtown Bee

Elected Officials Are Fundamentally Dishonest

To the Editor:

This letter was forwarded to Barack Obama, John Boehner, Chris Murphy, Dick Blumenthal, Elizabeth Esty, and Harry Reid

I live in Sandy Hook, CT. My family and close friends weren’t harmed on December 14. That day impacted 26 families with an indescribable, staggering pain and anguish. For most of Sandy Hook, it merely affected us with an inescapable intensity of sadness and grief.

Gun control has long been a focus of many in this country. Though I’m not knowledgeable of all the nuances of the Second Amendment, based on the Founding Fathers’ circumstances, it had far more to do with enabling the citizenry to protect themselves against tyrannical government than against local psychopaths. It is about providing a balanced firepower so when King George’s successor came knocking on your door, you could fight back. Government today is no less inclined to abuse its authority than it was then. Based on the absurd and ongoing power grab that is present day Washington, it’s as threatening as ever.

That so many of you view the NRA with its resistance to further restrictions on firearms as intransigent lunatics has far more to do with how you conduct yourselves in office than it does with the NRA’s actions.

You in public office are fundamentally dishonest people. You lead lives of deception at every turn, structuring your lives as comfortably as you can while governing with an indifference and arrogance that is absolutely maddening. When the country is reeling from financial disaster, you waste a trillion dollars on a health care bill we can’t afford and you’ve never read. You claim it’s critical because health care costs are killing this country… no they’re not, you are! You are killing this country. You endorse the ongoing slaughter of millions of unborn children and whine when terrorists are water boarded. You can’t lecture us right in Newtown High School about not doing enough to keep our children safe, while simultaneously slaughtering the unborn. You fabricate the intense, media laden drama of the fiscal cliff and lack the courage to do anything about truly reforming the obscene gluttony of government. You know you’ll be out of office before the bill comes due… you don’t care and have no integrity nor honor.

You lie whenever and wherever you need to to move forth your agenda. Were you able, you would purge the US of guns… every last gun in the country, if you could. So please forgive Wayne LaPierre and those of us who don’t trust you as far as we can spit. You’re a dishonest lot, motivated by a distorted worldview. If mass murder prevention were truly your goal, you would welcome armed security wherever needed. It is outrageous that we protect our money with far more firepower than we protect our children.

I have never owned a gun, nor wanted to as intensely as right now. You’ll stop restricting guns when only you have them.

Important 2nd Amendment Update

IMPORTANT UPDATES – TWO PART ACTION ALERT – PLEASE SHARE

1. WE MUST COUNTER Organizing for Action – CALL YOUR US REPRESENTATIVES AND US SENATORS MONDAY AND TUESDAY

Organizing for Action (Obama’s campaign organization turned action network) has directed their members to “flood” the Capitol switchboard.  Our representatives must hear from us to balance their effort.

In addition, Republican Senators Tom Coburn and Mark Kirk are working with Democrat Senators Joe Manchin, Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand on new legislation to “keep weapons away from criminals and the mentally ill.”

Grassroots NC’s position on potential bipartisan or Republican legislation: “None of this is acceptable.”

Many people are already being unfairly disqualified from owning a gun because of a diagnosis of PTSD or transient use of an anti-depressant in their past. Some legislators will want to compromise on this type of proposal, but it will infringe on the rights of the law-abiding.

Please call or email your US Representatives and US Senators on Monday and Tuesday, January 28 and 29. Ask them to SAY NO to any gun control measures.

House Reps are in their districts this week so use their local office numbers (while you’re calling, ask them when they will hold a town hall in the district):

Rep. G. K. Butterfield, Jr. (D-01) (252) 237-9816

Rep. Renee L. Ellmers (R-02) 1-877-645-8764

Rep. Walter B. Jones, Jr. (R-03) 800-351-1697

Rep. David Price (D-04) 919.859.5999

Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-05) (336) 778-0211

Rep. Howard Coble (R-06) (336) 333-5005

Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-07) (910) 815-4959

Senators are in DC this week:

Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) 202-224-3154

Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) 202-224-6342

2.  FROM GRASSROOTS NC: CALL COMMISSIONER OF AGRICULTURE STEVE TROXLER THIS WEEK

Ask him where he stands on gun control in relation to President Obama’s agenda.

Email AND call Commissioner Steve Troxler  at Steve.Troxler@ncagr.gov and (919) 707-3000

“It’s been well over a week since The NC Department of Agriculture Commissioner fell in line with President Obama’s plan to ban the private sales of any firearms following a recent incident at a gun show. After a negligent discharge of a shotgun at a recent gun show at the NC Fairgrounds in Raleigh, representatives of Agricultural Commissioner Steve Troxler saw fit to declare that private sales of any and all firearms would be banned for the rest of the show, and possibly all gun shows held on NC agricultural property in the future.

Where does Commissioner Troxler stand?

After pronouncing that private sales were banned from State Agricultural owned property, Commissioner Troxler has gone silent. The big question now becomes: will a REPUBLICAN controlled state agency now jump on President Obama’s gun control policies without question? When accidents involving automobiles happen, we don’t ban private auto sales. When accidents involving house fires happen, we don’t arbitrarily ban private home sales. Why then, are our elected leaders so quick to ban private firearms sales when a negligent discharge happens?

Maybe we should just ask?

The citizens of North Carolina deserve to know where our leaders stand on this issue. Using the contact information provided and the suggested message (or one of your own), contact NC Agricultural Commissioner Steve Troxler and ask him personally where he stands on the issue of private firearms sales and President Obama’s gun control agenda. With the anti-gun crowd screaming loud these days, we deserve to know just where our leaders stand on the issue.”

Letter to the Editor re. Second Amendment

We are all aware of  Barack Hussein Obama’s plans to ignore our 2nd Amendment rights and to ban certain guns in America .  In my opinion, this ban would be expanded over time, and if you own a gun, your rights would ultimately be threatened.  Opposition to a gun ban must begin with grassroots individuals and action at the local government level.  I plan to attend the February 18 meeting of our County Commissioners in the Commissioner’s Board Room, upstairs in the County Administration Building (the building where you pay your taxes).  Meeting starts at 6:00.  I plan to sign up immediately before the meeting to be included in the “Public Comment” portion of the meeting.  Rather than complain about gun bans on Facebook, or within our social groups, or murmur among ourselves, it would be good to make a strong showing at this meeting.  Feel free to call me personally if you have questions about this, or if you need further details (252-726-1318).  Hope to see you February 18.  Following is an e-mail I just sent to Sheriff Buck and each Commissioner.

Sheriff Buck, thanks for your continued hard work to ensure the safety and security of  Carteret County , its residents, business owners, tourists, and property.

Next, to those of you who are not new to the Board of Commissioners, thank you for your continued service to  Carteret   County ’s citizens.  And to the newly elected Commissioners, welcome, and may your term prove to be constructive for  Carteret   County , and a positive experience for you.  Thank you for your willingness to serve the citizens of this county.

I am writing to urge each of you to seriously consider taking strong action to nullify any gun ban that Barack Obama or his administration might implement and impose on US citizens.  There is no doubt that it is his intent to disarm us, whatever it takes.  County officials and Sheriffs across the country, and even right here in our own State (Beaufort County Commissioners being the first), are pro-actively taking such action.

Thank you in advance for your serious consideration of this request.

Commissioner Terry Frank
Commissioner Greg Lewis (Chairman)

Dear Sheriff Buck and Commissioners:

Sheriff Buck, thanks for your continued hard work to ensure the safety and security of Carteret County, its citizens, tourists, and property.

I am writing to urge each of you to seriously consider taking all necessary and appropriate action to nullify any gun ban that Barack Obama or his administration might try to implement and impose on US citizens.  We all realize that Counties and Sheriffs across the country, and even right here in our own State, are taking such actions (Beaufort County Commissioners being the first).

Thank you in advance for your serious consideration of this request.

Respectfully submitted,

First in the Nation: Beaufort County, NC Adopts Federal Gun Laws Nullification Resolution

January 18, 2013  was a great day for North Carolina. Beaufort County took the first step nationwide to adopt a Federal Gun Laws Nullification resolution!!  The resolution was passed unanimously by the Beaufort County Board of Commissioners and was greeted by overwhelming support. The resolution was written in strong terms, stating that no county official, paid employee, or resource will be used to cooperate with or enforce federal gun regulations. It also calls on the NC General Assembly to pass an act to nullify the implementation of any federal law, executive order, or regulation which restricts the right to keep and bear arms within the state of North Carolina, as well as to propose an amendment to the state constitution to enlarge gun rights.

ABC and Fox News were there to cover the event and Michael Boldin of the Tenth Amendment Center has spent the entire day getting the story out nationwide.

Please urge your own county commissioners or Sheriffs Department to adopt a similar resolution.  Beaufort County, the Tenth Amendment Center, etc etc will provide the resolution if it will help.

Here is the link to the Beaufort Observer article and full video –

You can hear what the Commissioners each had to say about the resolution. I was touched by their loyalty to the US Constitution, their patriotism, their understanding of history, and the fidelity of their oaths.

The Guns of Obamerica

The Guns of Obamerica

Posted: 20 Jan 2013 10:46 PM PST

Forget Wal-Mart and skip your local gun show. The murderers of tomorrow will not be found wearing orange vests at your local sporting goods store. They won’t have NRA memberships or trophies on their walls.

You won’t find them in America. Look for them in Obamerica.

67% of firearm murders took place in the country’s 50 largest metro areas. The 62 cities in those metro areas have a firearm murder rate of 9.7, more than twice the national average. Among teenagers the firearm murder rate is 14.6 or almost three times the national average. Those numbers are from six years ago. They have grown worse since.

Those are the crowded cities of Obamerica. The places with the most restrictive gun control laws and the highest crime rates. These are the places where the family is broken, money comes from the government and immigrants crowd in from some of the most violent parts of the world bringing with them their own organized crime. These are also the places that have run by Democrats and their political machines for almost as long as they have been broken. Continue reading

Email from Senator Kay Hagan on UN Arms Treaty

Talk about Double-Speak! If Senator Hagan feels so strongly about the Second Amendment as she says, what else is there to consider. Maybe she should consider that every gun owner in NC will vote her out of office if she votes to ratify this UN Small Arms Treaty.

Letterhead

     July 26, 2012

Dear Friend,

Thank you for contacting me regarding Second Amendment rights. I greatly appreciate your thoughts on this important matter.

As you know, in 2006 the United Nations (UN) began discussions regarding an Arms Trade Treaty. While the United States originally opposed these discussions, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has more recently stated that the United States would support and participate in these talks. In October 2009, the UN adopted, by a vote of 153-1 with the United States in support, a resolution laying out a timetable for negotiations. However, even should a treaty be signed, it would require the approval of two-thirds of the Senate before it would be considered ratified and in effect.

I understand your concerns regarding the protection of Second Amendment rights and I oppose allowing international law to override our constitutional rights. Like you, I support the Second Amendment. My family, like the great state of North Carolina, has a long tradition of hunting and gun ownership, and I take great pride in that heritage. Already during my time in Congress, I have voted on various pieces of legislation that protect Second Amendment rights, including to correct the District of Columbia’s overly-strict firearm regulations in order to protect Second Amendment rights in our nation’s capital.

President Obama has not sent any treaty regarding gun control to the Senate; however, I can assure you I will take your opinions and comments into account as I consider this important issue.

Again, thank you for contacting my office. It is truly an honor to represent North Carolina in the United States Senate, and I hope you will not hesitate to contact me in the future should you have any further questions or concerns. If you would like to stay informed on my work in the Senate, you can sign up for my e-newsletter, follow me on Twitter at @SenatorHagan, or visit my Facebook page.

Sincerely,

Email from Walter Jones re. Project Gunrunner

Dear Mr. Kukulinski:

Thank you for contacting me about holding the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Justice Department accountable for its actions as part of Project Gunrunner and Operation Fast and Furious. I appreciate hearing your thoughts and concerns on this important issue.  Please see my recent press release below calling for Eric Holder’s resignation.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) joined several of his fellow Republican colleagues in calling for the resignation of US Attorney General Eric Holder over Operation Fast and Furious.  Though he was briefed on the issue in 2010, Holder appears to have knowingly given false testimony under oath regarding his knowledge of the plan.  This development is the latest in a troubling string of incidents which have called Mr. Holder’s fitness to serve as America’s chief law enforcement officer into question.  At least 35 members of Congress have now called for Attorney General Holder to resign.  Congressman Jones is the first member from the North Carolina delegation to do so.

In July of 2010, Attorney General Holder filed a lawsuit against the state of Arizona and Governor Jan Brewer over the state’s anti-illegal immigration policy.  In February of this year, Holder and the Obama administration decided to no longer recognize the Defense of Marriage Act, which prohibits the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriage.  Holder also dismissed a case against the New Black Panther Party in August of 2009 for one of the most blatant acts of voter intimidation in recent memory.

“Since the Attorney General seems unable to be honest with the American people, it is time for him to go,” said Jones.  “Mr. Holder’s tenure has been marked by troubling decisions, but in the case of ‘Fast and Furious’, it appears that under his watch the lack of judgment at the Justice Department may have cost people their lives.”

Again, thank you for contacting me on this issue. If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Walter B. Jones
Member of Congress

Is the U.N. Trying to Strip Americans’ Second Amendment Rights?

Is the United Nations gunning for Americans’ second Amendment rights?

In an op-ed for Forbes, University of Houston professor Larry Bell rails against the U.N.’s “Small Arms Treaty.” Bell claims that the international body is passing the measure off as an effort intended to combat terrorists and insurgents. He says the measure has a very different purpose:

Anti-gun physicians in Florida claim right to ask patients about gun ownership

by David Paulin

What’s happening to the medical profession? In Madison, Wisconsin, lefty pro-union physicians wrote bogus medical excuses to striking school teachers — so they wouldn’t be disciplined for failing to show up for their classes. Now in Florida, a coalition of physicians with an anti-gun bent are insisting they have the right to ask patients whether they own guns and are storing them safely.

To most gun owners, of course, the fact that they own firearms and how they store them is a private matter – and certainly not the business of their physicians. So it was not surprising that some Florida gun owners went ballistic when, not long ago, they went in for checkups – and had their physicians instead peppering them with questions about their guns and where they keep them.

“We pay doctors to be doctors and give us medical care,” Florida NRA lobbyist Marion Hammer told Capital News Service. “Instead, they are trying to be social workers and bring their gun-ban politics into the examining room.”

Complaints from gun owners and the NRA eventually reached Florida’s lawmakers. Last week, Florida Gov. Rick Scott, a Republican, signed legislation restricting the ability of physicians to ask patients about guns in their home. Lawmakers passed the bill largely along party lines.

But the controversy isn’t over just yet. Now, the anti-gun physicians are fighting back. In an article about the controversy, the Orlando Sentinel reports:

“Attorneys with the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence and two other law firms are seeking to block enforcement of the law on behalf of three South Florida doctors as well as the Florida chapters of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Physicians.

The bill passed after lobbyists for gun-rights groups and the Florida Medical Association cut a deal that removed the original bill’s fine of up to $5 million and jail time for doctors and weakened other restrictions. But other physicians groups — most notably, pediatricians — have continued to fight it, saying that they ask about guns to ensure that parents keep them safely locked up and away from children.

By severely restricting such speech and the ability of physicians to practice such preventative medicine, the Florida statute could result in grievous harm to children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly,” according to the lawsuit, filed Monday in federal court in Miami.

Interestingly, some anti-gun physicians apparently considered their queries about gun ownership to be protected under the First Amendment – yet they did not consider that their patients had a First Amendment right not to answer their questions. Or as the Miami Herald reported: The legislation restricting physicians from inquiring about firearms ownership “appears to have originated after an Ocala couple complained that their doctor had told them to find another physician after they refused to disclose whether they owned guns and how they were stored.”

Some might call this an example of the Nanny State. But the more apt term for it is police state. How do you suppose these physicians feel about Obama care?

Obama Administration Running Guns to Mexico!

CBS, yes CBS is breaking news that shows the Obama Administration has been running guns to Mexico!

Agent: I was ordered to let U.S. guns into Mexico

ATF agent says “Fast and Furious” program let guns “walk” into hands of Mexican drug cartels with aim of tracking and breaking a big case

By Sharyl Attkisson
  • Video ATF agent: It’s not overATF special agent John Dodson explained to Sharyl Attkisson that there is no telling where their gun exchange program will end.
  • Video ATF agent explains why he let guns “walk”Sharyl Attkisson spoke with ATF special agent John Dodson who explained the reasoning behind the ATF’s “Fast and Furious” program that guns “walk” into hands of Mexican drug cartels with aim of tracking and breaking a big case.
(CBS News)WASHINGTON – Federal agent John Dodson says what he was asked to do was beyond belief.

He was intentionally letting guns go to Mexico?

“Yes ma’am,” Dodson told CBS News. “The agency was.”

An Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms senior agent assigned to the Phoenix office in 2010, Dodson’s job is to stop gun trafficking across the border. Instead, he says he was ordered to sit by and watch it happen.

Investigators call the tactic letting guns “walk.” In this case, walking into the hands of criminals who would use them in Mexico and the United States.

Dodson’s bosses say that never happened. Now, he’s risking his job to go public.

“I’m boots on the ground in Phoenix, telling you we’ve been doing it every day since I’ve been here,” he said. “Here I am. Tell me I didn’t do the things that I did. Tell me you didn’t order me to do the things I did. Tell me it didn’t happen. Now you have a name on it. You have a face to put with it. Here I am. Someone now, tell me it didn’t happen.”

Agent Dodson and other sources say the gun walking strategy was approved all the way up to the Justice Department. The idea was to see where the guns ended up, build a big case and take down a cartel. And it was all kept secret from Mexico.

ATF named the case “Fast and Furious.”

Surveillance video obtained by CBS News shows suspected drug cartel suppliers carrying boxes of weapons to their cars at a Phoenix gun shop. The long boxes shown in the video being loaded in were AK-47-type assault rifles.

So it turns out ATF not only allowed it – they videotaped it.

Documents show the inevitable result: The guns that ATF let go began showing up at crime scenes in Mexico. And as ATF stood by watching thousands of weapons hit the streets… the Fast and Furious group supervisor noted the escalating Mexican violence.

One e-mail noted, “958 killed in March 2010 … most violent month since 2005.” The same e-mail notes: “Our subjects purchased 359 firearms during March alone,” including “numerous Barrett .50 caliber rifles.”

Dodson feels that ATF was partly to blame for the escalating violence in Mexico and on the border. “I even asked them if they could see the correlation between the two,” he said. “The more our guys buy, the more violence we’re having down there.”

Senior agents including Dodson told CBS News they confronted their supervisors over and over.

Their answer, according to Dodson, was, “If you’re going to make an omelette, you’ve got to break some eggs.”

There was so much opposition to the gun walking, that an ATF supervisor issued an e-mail noting a “schism” among the agents. “Whether you care or not people of rank and authority at HQ are paying close attention to this case…we are doing what they envisioned…. If you don’t think this is fun you’re in the wrong line of work… Maybe the Maricopa County jail is hiring detention officers and you can get $30,000 … to serve lunch to inmates…”

“We just knew it wasn’t going to end well. There’s just no way it could,” Dodson said.

On Dec. 14, 2010, Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was gunned down. Dodson got the bad news from a colleague.

According to Dodson, “They said, ‘Did you hear about the border patrol agent?’ And I said, ‘Yeah.’ And they said ‘Well it was one of the Fast and Furious guns.’ There’s not really much you can say after that.”

Two assault rifles ATF had let go nearly a year before were found at Terry’s murder.

Dodson said, “I felt guilty. I mean it’s crushing. I don’t know how to explain it.”

Sen. Grassley began investigating after his office spoke to Dodson and a dozen other ATF sources — all telling the same story.

Read Sen. Grassley’s letter to the attorney general

The response was “practically zilch,” Grassley said. “From the standpoint that documents we want – we have not gotten them. I think it’s a case of stonewalling.”

Dodson said he hopes that speaking out helps Terry’s family. They haven’t been told much of anything about his murder – or where the bullet came from.

“First of all, I’d tell them that I’m sorry. Second of all, I’d tell them I’ve done everything that I can for them to get the truth,” Dodson said. “After this, I don’t know what else I can do. But I hope they get it.”

Dodson said they never did take down a drug cartels. However, he said thousands of Fast and Furious weapons are still out there and will be claiming victims on both sides of the border for years to come.

Late tonight, the ATF said it will convene a panel to look into its national firearms trafficking strategy. But it refused to comment specifically on Sharyl’s report.

Statement from Kenneth E. Melson, Acting Director, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives:

“The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) will ask a multi-disciplinary panel of law enforcement professionals to review the bureau’s current firearms trafficking strategies employed by field division managers and special agents. This review will enable ATF to maximize its effectiveness when undertaking complex firearms trafficking investigations and prosecutions. It will support the goals of ATF to stem the illegal flow of firearms to Mexico and combat firearms trafficking in the United States.”
